Good morning! You may remember that last year for the One Room Challenge, we set to work on our deck.

pallet sofa deck

Not too terrible before but notice the difference between the floor and the rails. Two totally different tones of wood because the rails we added when we moved in. (With two young kiddos, they were a must!) Since they were too different tones, we decided to paint it. Unfortunately, this is what it looked like one year later.photo 2-6

Now this is the thing…and I’m not joking…I picked up this stain in June and literally EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. we made plans to stain the deck or treehouse floor again, it rained. So my before pictures are from after the boys are in bed because that was the only time Russ could get it done. I would have happily done it but turns out our little surprise is holding me back from working on projects dealing with exterior paints and stains!

Now, you may notice in this second before picture how great the top part looks! Yes, well, my sweet Cray knocked over half a gallon of the stain one day so it had to be done quickly. Thankfully, that area was covered so it was saved from rain, but Russ had to roll and roll and roll to smooth it all out. Now, it’s the part that looks the best!

This stain really worked wonders. It easily adhered to this wood surface–as challenging as it was since the wood is so old and we did not have to prime it! All we did was blow the deck off and spray it off with a strong nozzle. And the best part is that even though it’s a stain, it has an opaque finish that hides LOTS of imperfections!

See the difference?

Notice, too, I didn’t have the deck perfectly cleaned off for pictures. I wanted you to see how the water just sits on top and how easily it is to clean! When we originally picked up the stain, it was for the treehouse but I had a gallon left over so I asked the kind company if we could use it for the deck and they said yes!

BUT, this is how the treehouse is looking…still not perfectly finished but getting there!

What do you think? I feel like we have been working on the backyard ALL summer long but we are so thankful! The boys love to come outside and I cannot believe I’m saying this but I think I’m actually looking forward to cool fall nights!

Thank you so much Flood Wood Care for this amazing product to use on our deck and treehouse! And if you’re interested, I used Traditional Cape Cod Gray -SWF-Solid by Flood® Wood Care. It was perfect for what we needed!
