This post is Day 2 of The Nester’s 31 Day Challenge:
On this second day of 31 days of Moving: in all aspects of life, I’m more nervous I won’t have enough to talk about but this morning my devotion had this verse and confirmed what I feel challenged to do.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NIV)
I’ve learned so much that I thought I’d share some things that I learned in this whole experience of the actual move we made (I am excited, though, to get to more of moving the earth and moving things around the house and moving out of comfort zone and all these other ideas I have floating around…):
Are you ready for the biggest lesson I learned?
1. Friends are necessary.
2. You have to make the first move.
In order to have friends, be a friend, right? This one move will make your move that much easier. Because our family has had so much change, we have had to rely on so many others as baby-sitters, errand runners, favor doers (I think I made that up), benefactors, the list could go on and on…words cannot ever express how grateful we are for these true friendships.
In our Sunday school class video through RightNow media, it discussed how so many of us long for that fellowship of friendship of a solid group of friends. But it’s not just going to “happen.”
You have to be a friend, first. You have to reach out. I am slowly learning this. As crazy busy as we all are, you have to make time for your friends. What does it teach your children if you are isolated?
Reach out to that person you’ve been waiting on to call you. Call them first. It’s okay now as adults to make the first move, I promise. Be strong. Be courageous. Be confident in who God created you to be.
What can you do to reach out? What can you do to push each other?
Moving is hard. Moving is tough. But it’s so worth it.
Have you made a move as a friend today?
