Friday…:) SO close to the weekend. We actually rescheduled this home tour due to everything going on in the world and you’d think that would have given me time to get my act together but in reality it was something I forgot to write down and I don’t know about anyone else but these days my mind just feels frazzled. I cannot seem to remember anything and everything seems overwhelming.
It has been such a sad time but such an important time.
It has been such a hard time yet some of the most peaceful days we have seen.
It has been overwhelming yet also so enlightening.
It has been a tough time but one of the most beautiful as our world stands still in absolute awe.
We wrapped up summer baseball, dance camp and BEGAN basketball season all this week. I posted how tough this was for our middle kiddo Wednesday night on Instagram, and your kind words, your words of encouragement and your love for our family meant so much to me. Some days are just hard for him so these three rooms in our house are important that we keep somewhat in order. We have officially given up on their rooms. Cray, especially, builds forts daily and I just don’t have the heart to take them down. He was building them down here in the living room but I did have to finally draw the line. I need our living room, dining room and kitchen (at least ONE) during quarantine to maintain some kind of order before I go to sleep. Sadly, for this home tour only one of those was photographed due to its cleanliness.
So here it is…our living room that has not changed much except for our bright blue hydrangeas from the yard. One of my very favorite things about summer is watching them bloom. One of my sweet campers and neighbors brought me the most beautiful mix of flowers from her garden and it makes my heart so happy.
You know I also had to include real life shots in here lest you think we actually have it altogether. We try really hard but to us, the most important thing are their hearts. We tell them every day – be sweet and kind. Be kind. Be kind. Be kind. That is the heart behind everything we ask them to do and the way we speak to each other, to our friends and to everyone we meet.
Thank YOU for being so kind to us and for following along. Because even though things look the same in this specific space, we love it still. We worked hard to get it to a point where we loved it–our favorite thrifted chairs recovered in a super fun zebra fabric, a thrifted chair in the corner, a thrifted coffee and my favorite sofa table that Russ made. And here me say that–we have been here seven years and it has taken us all six to get a point where I was not changing things daily. It took me painting the walls all white to calm the space and learn what we loved. It took moving things around and shopping our house for things we already had until we loved actually hanging out. It took observing all that goes on around us to learn what fit best for US. It took taking mental notes of spaces I loved and things I loved about this space to know how to best allow our home to serve us. And your home can serve you, too. You just have to allow it. Let it breathe. Let yourself breathe and recognize what makes you feel at peace. That is more than anything, THE most important thing.
Thanks for being here, friends. Be sure to come back next week for a peek into our garden. I cannot guarantee I will have my life together but I am really excited to get out there and show you around.
If you’re coming over from Tanya’s Lakehouse, welcome! We grew up on the lake and have since started taking the kids to play and I absolutely love the nostalgia and days spent there. You are in for a treat with her!!
